PURPOSE 

To provide both strategic and operational support to the Scheme. Responsible for all activities in the finance unit. The position reports directly to the Principal Officer (PO)and assists with all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget management, cost benefit analysis, forecasting needs and management of the Scheme finances.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Qualified CA or BCom Honours
  • Completed articles
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Financial services such as medical aid, employee benefits or social security benefits with at least seven (7) of these years spent at a management level.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Managing a team whom have the responsibilities of Fund Reporting, IFRS Reporting, Regulatory Return and Balance Sheet Control
  • Ensuring that accounting is in compliance with IFRS principles and regulatory accounting guidelines and is completed and reported in a timely and accurate manner
  • Developing a working relationship with the regulators and statutory auditors
  • Report to the Audit and Risk Committee on the findings of both External and Internal Auditors
  • Anticipating and informing of significant regulatory developments and helping to create and implement strategies to bring about desired changes
  • Advising of the financial and regulatory ramifications of any ethical and business practice concerns raised within the Fund
  • To lead and oversee the implementation of the Scheme’s long and short term plans in accordance with its finance strategy;
  • Perform Treasury functions and manage reserves – manage and monitor investments
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the business strategy
  • Report to the board and AGM on the financial performance of the scheme
